Safety and Security
Your safety and comfort are our top priorities at Edelweiss Lodge and Resort. Here are some helpful tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey:
1. Keep Important Documents Safe
Make copies of your passport, travel insurance, and other important documents. Store them separately from the originals, and consider keeping digital backups on a secure cloud service.
2. Be Aware of Your Surroundings
Whether you're exploring the local area or enjoying our resort, stay alert and trust your instincts. If you notice anything suspicious, report it to our staff or local authorities immediately.
3. Secure Your Belongings
Use hotel safes for valuables, and avoid carrying large sums of cash. Be mindful of pickpockets in crowded places and use bags with zippers for added security.
4. Stay Connected
Share your travel itinerary with a trusted family member or friend. Keep your phone charged and with you at all times, and make sure you know the emergency contact numbers for the area.
5. Know Local Laws and Customs
Respect local customs and familiarize yourself with laws that may differ from your home country. This ensures a smooth experience and helps you avoid any unintentional offenses.
6. Travel Insurance
Consider purchasing travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and lost or stolen items. It can provide peace of mind in case of unexpected situations.
7. Plan Your Routes Before
heading out, plan your travel routes and keep a map or GPS device handy. Be cautious when using public transportation, and consider using reliable ride-sharing services when exploring at night.
8. Health and Hygiene
Stay hydrated, wash your hands regularly, and follow any health advisories in the region. If you have any medical conditions, carry a list of your medications and consult a doctor before traveling.
9. Emergency Contacts
Familiarize yourself with local emergency numbers and keep a list of contacts, including the U.S. embassy or consulate, nearby hospitals, and our resort’s emergency hotline.
10. Fire Safety Awareness
Familiarize yourself with the resort's fire evacuation routes, exits, and fire extinguisher locations. Keep your room key or resort access card handy in case of an emergency. Open flames, such as candles, are not allowed in rooms. If you notice fire hazards, report them immediately to the front desk. For more fire safety information, visit the USACRC Website and search for "fire safety."
11. Personal Health and Wellness
Garmisch-Partenkirchen offers beautiful outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, and mountain biking. Be mindful of your limits, wear appropriate gear, and acclimate to the altitude if you’re not used to it. Carry a first-aid kit, stay hydrated, and take breaks to avoid fatigue. Check the USACRC Outdoor Recreation section for health and wellness resources.
12. Water Safety
When enjoying the resort’s pool or local lakes such as Eibsee, follow posted safety guidelines. The mountain lakes are cold, even in summer, so test the water temperature first. Supervise children around water, avoid swimming alone, and use life jackets if needed. Note that natural water bodies in the Alps may have strong currents or steep drop-offs. Learn more in the USACRC Water Safety section.
13. Child Safety
If traveling with children, keep a close watch on them, especially in crowded areas. Edelweiss Lodge offers a Kids' Club and family-friendly activities. Teach children to recognize the resort staff logo in case they need help. During local festivals in Garmisch, use child safety bracelets with your contact information. For additional child safety resources, visit the USACRC Home and Family section.
14. Cybersecurity Precautions
While using Edelweiss Lodge’s complimentary Wi-Fi, avoid accessing sensitive information. Use secure passwords, and if performing transactions, consider using your mobile data. When using public computers, log out and clear browsing data. For tips, visit the USACRC Cybersecurity page.
15. Weather Preparedness
Weather in Garmisch-Partenkirchen can change rapidly, especially in the mountains. Check forecasts daily, dress in layers, and carry rain gear. For mountain activities, check avalanche forecasts in winter. The Edelweiss front desk provides weather updates. See the USACRC Severe Weather section for more information.
16. Avoid Overconsumption of Alcohol
Drink responsibly at the resort’s beer garden or local pubs. Overconsumption can impair your ability to navigate mountainous terrain. Use resort shuttles or local taxis if needed, and be aware that Germany has strict laws on public intoxication and drunk driving. Read about alcohol risk management at USACRC Alcohol Safety.
17. Road Safety
If renting a car, be aware that Garmisch roads can be narrow and winding. Winter conditions require snow chains or winter tires from October to April. Drive cautiously, obey speed limits, and watch for cyclists and pedestrians. Maps and tips are available at the Edelweiss concierge desk. Visit the USACRC Driving and Vehicles section for road safety advice.
